Appending code (script) to another script

Since you cannot start and stop the continuation of a script when recording, I was told we could append code from one script to another. This seemed to work on the standard recorder, but when I tried this using the Smart Recorder I got errors when running the script stating that the objects could not be found in the local repository. Am I doing something incorrectly? I need to get a business scenario into one script and then move it to suite for regression or smoke testings.
