When Managing Windows Objects, you can amend the Window name and add a wildcard (*) When using the Function "Web Recorder > Navigate to URL" you can add a variable into the URL. This allows tests to be ran across different environments easily. However, this action cannot be achieved with the following: - Web Recorder > Manage Web Objects > Insert URL - Web Object Checkpoint Please can you tell me a way around this? |

I had been working to convert my Test Scripts to ensure that the URL is variable, to allow the scripts to be run against different environments. However, this has not been possible for a number functions used to write the scripts. Some functions use the “webpage” browser window name instead of the URL. This value is derived from the URL used whilst creating the script. It cannot be changed/added as a variable/wildcard introduced, like with other functions. A solution is needed for this issue. Why can window names be changed/added as a variable/wildcard introduced for some functions: - Manage Window Objects But not others: - Manage Web Objects Thanks, Claire |

Hello Claire, Web Recorder works with layout of webpage i.e. the controls on webpage. It is not dependent on window title, if the layout of webpage is same then the same task can work on different url's. You can capture the control on webpage by caption, index, attribute. You can also use 'Search by Caption' Web Recorder option to search and click the control on currently open browser. If you can provide an example we can create specific task for you. Hope that helps. |

I believe that the Web Recorder IS dependent on window title. I have been attempting to run my Automated Tests against 2 test environments and this has not been possible as the pre-fix of the window title/web page is "CENSUS_LIVE_TEST - *" for the first environment and "CENSUS 2011 - *" for the second. Tests recorded against the "CENSUS_LIVE_TEST - *" environment cannot be ran against "CENSUS 2011 - *". Errors occur stating the web page cannot be found. The layout of the screens is the same in both environments. Please can this be looked into? |
