Default Excel start/end cells

Is there any way to use an excel file without having to provide the start/end cells.

Otherwise I have to rewrite the AA task when the number of rows change and I wanted to run it as an exe.

Unless I use A1, Z9999 and then check for a blank cell at the start of a row.

With .csv you don't have to tell it how many rows of data there are. But AA runs more slowly and it seems to fail when presented with a larger file of only 69 rows of 5 columns data.

Hello,

You can also try something like this,

1) Excel : Open Spreadsheet "C:\book1.xls". Active Sheet: Default. Session: Default
2) Excel : Go to cell "A1". Session: Default
3) Excel : Get value of Active Cell and assign to variable "Prompt-Assignment". Session: Default
4) Loop While $Prompt-Assignment$ Not Equal To ""
5) Excel : Go to one cell below the active cell . Session: Default
6) Excel : Get value of Active Cell and assign to variable "Prompt-Assignment". Session: Default
7) End Loop

That way the task would start from A1 and will move down and get the data until there is no more data in that sheet.

Hope that helps. If you could tell us more about your case, we would be able to help you more with specific task.

I'm not sure I understand the OP's post, but I prefer to use an Excel Macro instead of the above.

Record a macro in Excel to go the last blank cell. F5 > Special > Last Cell. Then run the Excel Macro in AA. Works great and much quicker then the above especially when you have many Excel entries.

Default Thanks

I'll give both a try.

I have used AA to upload my bank statement entries for VAT purposes to my accountants web site. I hate re-keying in the printed data. In the old days the accountant used excel and it took me 1 hr to complete - now web-based it takes more than 4 to 6 hours. But now with AA I am getting back towards 1 hr - and I don't miss a line item after running off for a coffee or answering the phone.

Some problems I had were:
I couldn't automatically identify which items are VAT-able - so I had to edit my accountants web site entries afterwards. I suppose I could build another excel file against which I could find matching entries.

AA ran the task fairly slowly (though 100% accurately). A quick typist could easily beat it for speed.

If I did loose my internet connection I would have to amend the input file to delete entries already input.

I was disappointed that I was promised 5 hrs of free consultation by AA but when I sent in my spec I heard nothing ao I have had to complete the task myself.
