Default Want to run a task when a file is created.

Hi,

I want to run a task when a file is created in a specfic folder.

Let me explain the scenario,

A file is created by a remote pc at 11:00 PM every night, in a particular folder. what i want is when the file is created, the file should be opened and the query written in text file should be copied to a MYSQL program running and should be executed.

Is there any way in which i could do this using Automation Anywhere 3.5 trial version available on the web.

Thanks in advance
TheBrain.

Hi Thebrain,

Yes this can be done in automation anywhere 3.5 (trial version on the web)

On the current task that copies the data to mysql program. Go to the Trigger tab. Select Trigger Type 'File'. Insert the path to the File name. Select the action 'when file is created'. Now this task when run when the file specified is created.

Open the task up and add a step (last step) to rename or move the file.

Hi Nick,

Thanks for your prompt reply.

But, my problem still exist. The file that is been created is not always same, what i mean is the name of the file keeps on changing. The file name is like Query_DD-YYYY-MM. DD- days, YYYY - Year and MM- Month. I tried to press F2 and insert the Day, Year and Month Variable, but actually pressing
F2 does not bring the Variable selection Form.

Can u pls. let me know if i am doing something wrong.

Thanks in advance
TheBrain.

Hello,

In that case what you can do is use the Folder trigger. There is an option in the folder trigger 'When any file is created'.

1. Select the Trigger type as Folder
2. Specify the path of the folder where this file is getting created.
3. Select the option 'When any file is created'.

hi,

thanks for ur reply.

your solution worked.

But i have one more issue, the file that is being created is created from a remote machine in the network. And when the file is created, the PC is locked. In the morning when i come and check i could see that the Automation Anywhere is running but the keystrokes are not played back.

I don't understand what is wrong. Is it because i have kept the PC locked that it is not able to play the keystroke command. Because when i keep the PC unlocked everything seems to work correctly.

Please let me know if i have to keep the PC unlocked to run the task.

Thanks in advance

TheBrain.

Hello,

Not a problem, you can lock your computer provided that ‘Auto Login’ feature is enabled. For this, you can click on Tools--> Options-->Auto Login Settings. You can put a check in the box in front of ‘Unlock your computer when the task runs’. In this window, please give same username & password which you apply in the current user of the operating system. Now you can click on ‘Apply’ & ‘Ok’.
When a file is created, the trigger will fire a task & Automation Anywhere will unlock the computer. Then task will be executed. Once task is completed, it will again lock the computer.
