Default Job fails when Scheduled and Server RDP session is disconnected

I have a job setup which has a number of steps to manipulate data in various notepad documents using a lot of keystroke steps. This Job runs perfectly when I am logged onto the server and either run the task manually or on a schedule.

However If I schedule the task and leave my RDP session logged in but the RDP session is disconnected, or if I Lock the server and disconnect my RDP session then the task fails. When I RDP back onto the server the task has failed at the point its trying to do a "Replace" function in notepad however the "Replace" window is not active so it fails, also there is about 15 notepad documents open so earlier on in the task it hasn't completed other steps correctly and has just snowballed out of control resulting in this failure.

The task is doing a various number of keystroke tasks including Ctrl C, Ctrl V, Ctrl H, Alt F4, etc

I have tried connecting direct to the console but still no better. Unless I’m actually on the server with my RDP session active then it doesn’t work correctly... any ideas?

I have also noticed that if I leave my RDP session active while the task is running then if i try to use copy and past commands on my local PC then they have an effect on the job that is running via the RDP session!

For info I am running Windows Server 2008R2 (x64)

Hello Stephen,

With RDP, it is a known issue that it ends the session in which it was logged in, which withdraws all the controls on the remote system. It is the reason why Automation Anywhere is not having keystroke and mouse click controls when you task is schedule to launch or not running, when you are not connected to your system.

We would like to recommend using VNC or Team Viewer to connect to other machine. This tool does not work on session based approach and thus it will allow the user to retain all the controls even after disconnection. You can keep the VNC session minimized or closed and the automated task would work as expected.

You can find VNC software from the following link:
RealVNC - Download VNC® software
