Question How to download .xml files in web browser

I've got a web site I'm using that requires me to post some data to a page which then returns xml data. My browser brings up the xml data no problem, but I cannot find any way of saving that data to my computer. Once I have a page open in my browser with .xml content, how can I save it? For example, imagine you had to post some information to this page:

link for xml

(this is just an example page, not the exact page I am using... so imagine you have to post some information to that page from another page... so you cannot just go directly to that page, your browser first fills out a form on another page, which is posted to that page so it knows what data to give you in xml)

Now that we are on the results page (link for xml) we have to save that. Going to the browser's "Save As..." command works, but I need to run this task in the background, so I cannot use things like mouse clicks or send keys.

How can I save that xml document once I have it open in my browser?

Thank you!

Tyler

Hi Tyler,

You can use the 'Download File' command available under 'Web Recorder' to download the xml file without involving any mouse clicks or keystrokes.

You will have to specify the xml page link under the window that pops-up on trying to use the 'Download File' command.

Regards.

Hi there, two things:

1. I cannot just go to the .xml page, I have to first go to another html page, fill out a form, and submit it. Then it takes me to the .xml page which shows me the appropriate content based on what I put in the form on the previous page. So I cannot just specify the link to the .xml file directly in the "Download File" command. How can I download the .xml file in this case?

2. Even if I could do what you suggested, it doesn't seem to work for me. If I put in the link to the .xml file using the "Download File" command, it doesn't work. If you still think it works, can you send me a working example with the .xml link I used in my original post.

So now I have two questions, one for each of my points above.

Thank you!

Tyler

Hi Tyler,

We have attached a sample task which explains the process to download a web document in xml format.

Download and Save the file under 'My Tasks' folder. To locate the path of the 'My Tasks' folder, right click on any of the existing tasks and select the 'Locate on Disk' option.

This is a sample task that has been created to explain the logic to download a web document available in xml format. If need arises, you will be required to change or modify the task script as per your requirement.

Hope this helps.
