Default ?window controls - text box ? reliabilty?

Can you give us a brief list of things to check to ensure reliability of manage window controls to EXTRACT text from text box controls?

Background-
I have a web based application.
But,
I don't want to use the manage window controls because they cause extra windows to open.
I want to be able to navigate and type on the web page and
GET TEXT
from a TEXT BOX CONTROL.

Sometimes AA can't capture the control.
Sometimes AA will capture it and it will work for a bit, but, if the values in the text box change to new user name,
then the GET TEXT will fail and trigger error logging.

I need to be able to make EXEs with this code that can be run on many machines.

So,
how can I make the GET TEXT window control be bullet-proof reliable.

thanks
Phil

Hello Philkryder,

We would recommend you to use "Web recorder" for extracting data from any of the web based application though we would like to see your application so that we can suggest you the solution accordingly.

If you can send us the screenshot or the url of the application we would be able to rectify this issue in a better way.

Have a great day.

Thanks & Regards

I have developed at least 15 tasks in the past year where I began by using Web Recorder, took the task through our QA department, deployed the executable into production only later to see the task fail in a similar fashion to what you describe.

At that point, it is extremely difficult to convince my director to let me spend additional development cycles with the AA support team to look at the task only to state I have to use mouse clicks and keystrokes. This has happened just about every time.

I would like to see if there is a way of reviewing the website code beforehand to determine if wasting time using Web Recorder, Manage Window Controls, or Keystrokes is even feasible.

I realize websites change, but are there characteristics we can notice about websites that bode well for using one solution versus another? Trial and error isn't efficient.

Thank you

Hello Dennis,

There are multiple technologies and platforms available today. Every website is built on different technologies and a single website may use multiple technologies. Each of these technologies keeps on updating themselves on regular basis so there is no easy way in which we can test and describe which websites or which technology is supported by the web recorder.
Even at our engineering labs we use the trial and error method for updating our technology and we try hard to keep up with the quick changing tech trade.

Thanks & Regards

Can't you give us - perhaps in FAQs you are working on - a list of things like DEP and UAC controls at least?

Sometimes it just "goes blind" when I can see the control right there on the page,
and it can "find" it.

I can do a source extract source and send it to you.
or
a CTL+A
and CTL+C
and send you the text.

Hello Phil,

Thank you for your suggestion. As mentioned earlier, we are in a process of listing all the FAQs.

Thanks & Regards
