If Then not working

I am using code like this:
If $Variable$ Equal To "xyz" Then
Excel: Go to one cell below the active cell
End If

I verify beforehand that in Log to File: $Variable$ in "C\log.txt" , the content of $Variable$ was "xyz", but the Excel code does not execute.
