Default File extension not recognized

After installing a script on a user's machine, copying all the necessary files in the correct folders and running that script, the filename extension does not show up in the dialogue that inputs the filename automatically (just the filename shows up but not the extension). I think it is a variables.dat problem. I copied it over from my machine where the script works fine but crashes on the user's machine. I'll keep troubleshooting.
