Default How does the AA interpret the Remote Desktop window

In order to record AA tasks on a machine with only one monitor, I run remote desktop to create and edit ATMNs.

Then, I RUN them also via remote desktop on a "SLAVE" machine.

All the machines are Windows XP SP3.

I'm using AA 5.5.2.

Both RDP machines use Landscape 1024x768.

I've observed that the Y coordinates on the "slave" machine do not match the coordinates used when the task was recorded.

Mouse clicks do not hit the buttons I need to hit.

The Y coordinate on the slave machine needs to be about 26 pixels smaller than was captured during the recording.

All mouse clicks are now RELATIVE TO SCREEN to avoid other problems.

Does using Remote Desktop affect the coordinates needed?
Is perhaps the Top Border of the Remote desktop window somehow being added to the coordinates?

Thanks
Phil

Hello Phil,

Yes, the screen resolution change when you use RDP. For use with Microsoft's Remote Desktop please follow the instruction below.

1. Keep the screen size of the connection while recording to non-maximized mode.
How to change screen size: In the Remote Desktop Connection window, click Options. On the Display tab, under Remote desktop size, drag the slider to choose the size of remote desktop smaller than full size.

2. Keep the property of Keyboard under Local resources to - 'In full screen mode only'.
How to configure it: In the Remote Desktop Connection window, click Options. On the Local Resources tab, under Keyboard, choose "In full screen mode only".

3. Now when you connect, make sure remote desktop is coming up in non-maximized mode. Record your action in remote machine using remote desktop window, like any other task on your computer.

Hope that helps.

WOW - Those are some VERY arcane and specific restrictions.

And, they seem VERY cumbersome.

I hope that they do help.

Are there plans to remove the restrictions so that we can use features like full screen? and full Keyboard support (especially for the ESCape key).

Do these restrictions also apply under VISTA and WINDOWS 7 which have multi screen support?

Is there any LIST of similar restrictions for other AA environments such as
PORTRAIT mode
or
MULTIPLE MONITORS?

Thanks for your help in clarifying this.
Phil

Hello Phil,

We guess it is the limitation with RDP technology.

We suggest try using VNC, we have seen that, it works out well and better because it physically runs the task on the remote machine as opposed to RDP where it lasts only in the session.

VNC is actually a free software. The VNC website is RealVNC - VNC® Free Edition 4.1

You can keep the VNC session minimized or closed and the automated task would work as expected.

Hope this helps.
